Outlet or Madness?

Misfit Musing #51

For the last decade, I’ve had the pleasure of rubbing shoulders with some of the best athletes on the planet. While their day to day routines have always been fascinating, one of my deepest passions is understanding and synthesizing their psyches. Uncovering the connections I find from athlete to athlete and what separates them from the athletes in the tiers below them is a job I take very seriously.

Underneath everything that makes them different is a striking similarity that manifests as a seemingly constant driving force or the sole reason your results do not line up with your passion.

This similarity is most easily described as a deeply held personal belief that you need to be better. For some people, this sets them off on an endless pursuit for greatness. For others, that voice telling them they aren’t good enough takes the wheel much too often.

This fire inside many of you is unique and powerful, but without acknowledging its existence and telling it to be quiet every once in a while, what makes you similar to your examples of success will drive you away from joining them.
